Lakshmi Access Communications System (LACS), a Bengaluru based firm revealed tablets running on Google’s Android platform at a price range of Rs 6,250 to Rs 35,000. The growing tablet market in the country has propelled many manufacturers to foray in the segment thereby giving stiff competition to established players like Apple, Samsung, LG, RIM etc. Industry experts believe in rural areas people prefer tablets to laptops and desktops for internet access and hence such low cost tablets from local firms can find quite a number of takers.
The 4.3 inches tablet has been designed by LACS and is manufactured in China. It is powered by a 800 MHz processor and 256 MB RAM. Mahendraa Kumar Jain, MD of LACS said the company has made the tablet affordable and ensured that it fits well into pocket. Recently two more Indian firms Beetel Teletech and Reliance Communications Ltd came up with their own tablet priced at $ 220 and $ 280 respectively.
